 Rules
« Thread Started on Jun 6, 2005, 4:51pm »

I thought that I would write some rules incase there are some people who are unfarmiliar to the idea or rules of role playing.

1. From my experience there are two types of role player, but that hardly matters in our small community. HOWEVER, I think it wouild be a good idea to mention them as a first point. The types are:
a) Literate- they have good spelling, puctuation, grammer and can write a reasonable length introduction. (This is what I should think most people here are)
b) Advaced- they use a large vocabulary, write a lot on their character, spending time going into detail, and generally expand their posts more.

2. When you aren't being your character there are several ways to make this obvious. You can put (and this is the one I favour for ease) ((what you want to say)) It makes it clear that is it something different. Also you can put Ooc: which stands for Out of character.

3. Normally you role play in the present tense, however some find it easier (e.g. me) to use past tense. Though, you must stick to the tense or there is a big confusion!

4. A few small points, don't ignore someone. If a character talks to your character it kind to reply. Always read every character bio and post. Don't be mean, unless your character has a reason, though they shouldn't. The main thing is have fun.

If you don't understand, or I haven't mentioned anything ask me or anyone else for that matter! I have no I idea why I wrote this, but still...

Just to be nitpicky:

- It's spelt "grammar".
- Maybe you can give us an example of a "proper" short roleplay?

Apart from that, some ground rules are always good ideas.

Only two types of roleplayers? I've heard of several..this is what I thought it was:

Semi-Literate: (This is probably me.) They write medium length posts, which are more interested in the actual story and plot rather than going into huge detail. They use good grammar and do their best to spell things correctly.

Literate: These people go into long descriptions of everything, they use metaphors and synonyms and all those other things that English teachers nag you about.

Extreme Literate: These people are just like the Literate people except they are easily annoyed by other people who aren't like them. The make their own roleplays called "Literates Only". (They also get really angry and shout at me when I point out to them that 'Literate' means 'able to read'..)

Chtspkrs: These people only roleplay in Chat Speak. IT can be very annoying.

Mary Sues: These people are only fun when you're laughing at them. They are perfect and beautiful in every way, but have a damaged background, and some really ugly person hates them. However they usually either teach that ugly person a lesson and then 'giggle' about it, or some really hot guy does it for them. I could go on all day about Mary-Sues but I have to go to school, so you'll have to find out about it elsewhere, or wait until I get home.

Newbies: People who have no idea what they are doing and sometimes try to put things in the POV of other characters without permission...

Thats all I can think of right now..

I do know how to spell grammar, I just can't type! I don't know what you mean by a 'proper' role play, so I can't give you an example!

Yes Linwe, there are a loads of types of role players, I just figured (or rather hoped) we wouldn't get any Mary-Sue's or Chat speakers on here- or they would die! :) It was just mainly to let everyone know what is going on, though I am sure you all do, when you role play.
